Mindful Carding

Susan Delafield

Morning

Hand cards are one of the most versatile and easy to use fibre prep tools you can find, as well as being portable and economical. Typically, they are used for basic fibre preparation such as making rolags for woolen style spinning, But that is just beginning of fibre play with hand cards. Never discount how useful your hand cards are, even when you, like me, find beautiful fibre tools irresistible. Working with hand cards gives you the chance to truly experience the joy of fibre in your hands, appre-ciating colour, hand, texture, and quality. We will step through basic carding techniques and explore different uses of carders. We will talk about hand friendly methods to use our carders comfortably. Let’s dive deep into the many ways that hand cards can be used to create fibre preparations that you will love to spin

Skill Level

Beginner Friendly

Susan’s lifelong dream of learning to spin, started with a simple drop spindle class. She soon graduated to a wheel (or two), almost 15 years ago. Happily the Ontario Handspinning Seminar was in her home town that year and her fibre passion was kindled. A 2020 graduate of the OHS Spinning Certificate Program, Susan loves to experiment with all things fibre. She can be found preparing fibre, dyeing and spinning or knitting. It is her happy place.
