Ontario Handspinning Seminar

Spinning Crepe Yarns: AKA Spinning Princess Yarn!

Beth Showalter

Full Day

Elegant Crepe yarns have an unusual laced or braided texture that can be used in a variety of textile constructions. In this workshop, we will use a classic three-strand crepe yarn structure as a starting point for yarn design. Spinners will learn to manipulate twist and direction to construct this beautiful, complex yarn structure. Join us for a fun day of spinning while we begin to explore the variations of crepe yarns - yarns fit for a princess! Spinners will learn how a crepe yarn is constructed and how to spin their own crepe yarns. Bring a few plied, handspun yarn (please assemble in balls or centre pull balls) - it’s ok if this yarn was spun/plied many years in the past and if you don’t remember the fibre(s) or how you spun the yarn

What to Bring

• Wheel in good working order • Handspun yarn (see above) • 3 to 4 empty bobbins + Lazy Kate • Hand carders and other usual items in your spinning basket • Baggies, labels, markers, etc

Skill Level

PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS AN INTERMEDIATE WORKSHOP AND SPINNERS SHOULD BE ABLE TO COMFORTABLY SPIN SINGLES IN BOTH DIRECTIONS.
