Ontario Handspinning Seminar

Submerged in Spinning: A Textural Deep Dive

Marie-Pierre Chabot

Full Day

Transform your spinning by breaking the rules of traditional consistency. In this hands-on workshop, you will learn the secrets to creating intentional "lumps and bumps" using specialized wheel techniques. Whether you want to master core spinning or play with thick-and-thin textures, this session will provide the tools you need to create one-of-a-kind art yarn. By the end of this workshop you will be able to: • prepare and blend coloured fibers on a drum carder • spin 3 types of art yarn • incorporate different materials into your spinning, such as locks, fabric, and beads • use different plying techniques. Fibre will be provided, but feel free to bring your own in case you have time to practice.

I fell in love with the art of spinning in 2019, starting with alpaca fiber. Today, I handle every step of the pro-cess myself — from washing and carding to dyeing and spinning — creating both artistic fiber batts and unique handspun yarns for crochet, knitting, or weaving. Most of my fiber comes from local Canadian farms. In 2024, my work was featured in Fibre Magazine (Quebec) and Spin Off Magazine. Continuing my commitment to fiber excellence in 2025. I have already begun the prestigious OHS Spinning Certificate Program. This six-year journey is a deep dive into everything from fleece preparation to advanced yarn design.
