Nina Bates - Weaving with your handspun yarns is satisfying. Whether you are using up your odd skeins or spinning for a specific project, there are many ways to help pave the way for your success.
CA$35.00Sale endedUnlocking Your Drum Carder
Roy Cleme - Drum carders are a more versatile tool than most people realize, being capable of creating multiple styles of both woolen and semi-worsted preparation. Unlock your (and your drum carder’s) potential in this action-packed fiber prep primer for beginners and seasoned fiber artists.
CA$35.00Sale endedStress and Relaxation
Lisa Murray - In this presentation, we will explore the basics of the physiology of the biochemical and hormonal Stress Response and the profound effects stress has on our bodies - from digestion to dysregulated hormones to anxiety and insomnia. We will then explore the well-documented Relaxation Response and its effect to down-regulate the stress response and its harmful effects ways we can culture a relaxed calm in our lives.
CA$35.00Sale endedSpinning a Rainbow of Yarns
Barb Fawcett - This workshop will provide you with the tools to create an infinite number of colours for specialized yarn construction using three coloured (red, blue, yellow) and three basic (white, gray, black) fibres from your stash (or specifically purchased, if you choose.) The focus will be placed on designing yarns based on the 12-step colour wheel and will inspire creativity to construct literally hundreds of colours using tints, tones, and shades.
CA$35.00Sale endedStress-Free Spinning
Rebecca Lamperd - Tips and tricks to spin what you want, using your stash, some tools and charts and a sense of humour. We will look at spinning for the sake of spinning, how to throw some of your fibre and yarn stash together to rescue it, and how not taking ourselves so seriously all the time will bring joy to spinning. (Wheel focused, transferrable to the spindle. Both methods will be demonstrated.)
CA$35.00Sale endedA Sampling of Ontario Fibres
Julia Lee - Participants will receive a package containing about 6 different protein fibres, all grown and prepared in Ontario by our local community. You are likely to see a couple of types of wool along with alpaca, mohair, and angora. Julia will introduce you to each fibre individually, discuss its characteristics and advantages, and lead you through the necessary steps to help you spin it successfully.
CA$35.00Sale endedSpinning Thread
Sarah Wroot - In this workshop we will look at both modern and historic textiles to see different threads used for different purposes. We will talk about how what you want the thread to do – even in some cases the type of fabric you wish to stitch – should influence your decisions about structure and fibre choice. We’ll discuss the number of plies, the type and quality of fibre to use, tools to help you spin and ply consistently, and then put this information to use.
CA$35.00Sale endedSupported Spindling
Rachel Smith - This 2-hour workshop will introduce participants to the world of supported spindling, offering a description of the types out there and their role in our spindle fleets. This will be a bit of a Fashion Show and I invite you to share yours too! We will explore getting started on a supported spindle, field questions, discuss temporary cops, and finish with some tips on plying. The group will benefit from having a support spindle and wool fibre in their hands during the session.
CA$35.00Sale endedUnderstanding Your Wheel
Elana Goodfellow - Understanding how your wheel operates and what it excels at is directly related to the success and the pleasure of a spinner. Many spinners abandon spinning particular yarns on their wheel or e-spinner due to frustration with operating their wheel or e-spinner. I would like to present a workshop on the drive systems and tensioning systems of different wheels and e-spinners and discuss what each excels at.
